Dr. Jill Biden may be the First Lady, but she’s also an educator and a mother, and therefore understands deeply how this pandemic has affected her fellow teachers and parents, as well as students of all ages. In an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show, Jill empathized with those people whom she knows were already juggling a ton of responsibilities and stress before throwing a global health crisis into the mix.

“We have so much to do, but we have to get the pandemic under control,” Jill told Kelly of the issues she feels most passionate about pursuing during her time in the White House. “We have to get people back to work, and get kids back in schools.”

With families home so much more during this time and kids going to school virtually, even more has been added to parents’ plates in terms of their varying responsibilities. “Moms . . . they were struggling before the pandemic, and I think it’s just really exacerbated everything that moms have to handle,” Jill said. “Now they’re helping their kids online.”

Jill then took a moment to shout out all of the teachers who have been doing so much over the last year to ensure their students get an education despite the hardships of virtual and hybrid learning. And Kelly, whose mom was a teacher, added, “A silver lining from this whole situation has been people are realizing how hard it is to be a teacher.”

Kelly continued, asking what it’s been like for Jill to teach virtually, and for her college students – especially those who are parents – to learn that way. “It was already hard enough,” Jill said, adding that she feels hopeful that there’s a light at the end of the pandemic tunnel for us all.
